In this tutorial, you will learn how to customize the layouts of the member directories in the BuddyBoss Platform. You can choose to display various elements for additional information on the member directory and customize the profile action buttons.
You can define the view(s) available on member directories to:
- Grid and List
- Grid
- List
You can define the default view on member directories to:
- Grid
- List
You can choose to display the following elements on the member directories:
- Online Status
- Profile Type
- Available only if Profile Types are enabled
- Followers
- Available only if Follow is enabled in Activity Settings
- Last Active
- Joined Date
You can choose to customize the profile actions on the members directories:
- Follow
- Available only if Follow is enabled in Activity Settings
- Connect
- Available only if Member Connections are enabled
- Send Message
- Available only if Profile Types are enabled
Note: You must have the BuddyBoss Platform Pro (version 1.2.0 and higher) installed and activated on your site to unlock the new member directories feature.
Customizing the Member Directories
You can choose the alignment for the avatars on the member directories and choose the elements to display additional information about your BuddyBoss members. To customize it:
- Go to WordPress Dashboard > BuddyBoss > Settings > Profiles.
- In the Member Directories section, select the view you want to enable for the Member Directories page. For example, select Grid and List for the Enabled View(s) option.
- In the Default View option, select the default view for the Member Directories page. For example, select Grid for the Default View option. This option is only available if Grid and List view are both enabled.
- In the Elements option, select which elements you want to display on your BuddyBoss member directories page. For example, mark the checkboxes for Online Status, Profile Type, and Last Active.
- In the Profile Actions option, select which profile action buttons to enable. For example, mark the checkboxes for the Follow profile action.
- In the Primary Action option, optionally select which profile action to show as a primary button. For example, select Follow from the dropdown list.
The remaining enabled profile actions will be shown as secondary buttons underneath.

- Click the Save Settings button to apply the changes.
