BuddyBoss App

Smart Banner

Why Use the Smart Banner in Your BuddyBoss Community?

A smart banner is a banner that will show up at the top of the screen when a user visits your website using a smart device that lets them know you have an app and directs them to the Apple and Google store to download. The banner also shows up if your user visits your site using a smart device and that user already has the app downloaded on their device then the banner encourages them to open the app instead.  This feature only works after your app is live and below we will show you how to set this up.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to configure the Smart Banner feature for the BuddyBoss App when a user is viewing your website in a mobile browser on their phone.

App Store App ID

The first thing you need to do before we start is grab your app listing ID. The ID will be at the end of your listing URL. You can locate these by visiting the app stores linking to your app store page URLs and taking the last number at the end of the URL.

Apple App Store Connect

Your URL will be something like the Spotify URL link below:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/spotify/id1558004735 – You only need the number after id at the end. I would save the whole URL somewhere you can always get to it for marketing purposes saves you having to always jump into your developer account to link to it each time…

Google Play Store

This is not required for setting up the Smart Banner but always good to know.

With Google, your link will look something like the Spotify link below:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotify.tv.android – with this you only want the last part after id=. So com.spotify.tv.android would be the id you want here.

Configure Smart Banner

First, you want to navigate to Buddyboss App – Configure – iOS Settings scroll down until you see ‘App Information’ and the first input box ‘Apple App ID’ This is where you put your Apple app store id. Then Click Save Changes.

With Android visit  Buddyboss App – Configure – Android Settings.

In the first box of information ‘App Configuration’ you will notice your ‘Application ID’ should already be there as part of your setup. Make sure you have a ticket at the bottom that says you have registered your Application ID in the Google Developer Account.

This lets our platform plugin know you are live with that Application ID which will open the Smart Banner setting for you to turn on.

Turn On Smart Banner

Now you have configured your settings to now use the Smart Banner now comes the easy part. Navigate to Buddyboss App – Settings – Smart Banner. Here you can see the options have opened up for you to turn on and off the smart banner function for each platform as you please.

If you are not seeing the checkboxes:

  1. Double Check your IDs are correct.
  2. Double Check you have clicked the Save Changes button

So this is the smartest way to promote your app to your members.
