User Photo Uploading

Modified on June 14, 2015

User Photo Uploading requires that you have the BuddyBoss Media plugin installed, sold separately. The feature allows your members to upload photos to their profiles, and to other user’s profiles as well if you have User Wall Posting enabled.

Activating User Photo Uploading

  1. Go to the Settings > BuddyBoss Media menu in your Dashboard.
  2. Configure the options as required for your site.

You should see a new “Photos” tab on your profile. You can upload a photo from the Photos tab, or from your main profile activity page. Photos can be organized into Albums as well.

  1. Is there any setting for resizing or minimizing the proper size of the photo automatically?

When I upload it both via PC and smarphone, I am not allowed to upload the picture which should be heavy. It always takes time to upload and finally indicates “An error occurred!”.

      1. I follow the tutorials and try to have the same toolbar on my site as your demo site has, but I don’t make it. Please show me the way.

        [Your demo site]
I can change my profile and see the wall, notification, and others in the toolbar on the top right of the site.
I am not allowed to get in the backend ( /wp-admin/edit-comments.php).

        [My site]
Users can get in the backend ( /wp-admin/edit-comments.php) as well as can update their profile, and wall, and others from the toolbar.

I give new users ‘Subscriber’ role, but the toolbar does not show up.
So I make him/her ‘Editor’ or other roles to show up the toolbar like your demo site does. However, they can get in the backend.

I would like them to use the toolbar, but not allow them to get in the backend.

  2. One more question.

I don’t want to allow Subscribers to get in the back-end of the site (WordPress configuration) .

Subscribers are only allowed to post things on Activity, create groups and forums, add photos, and update the profile only through the front of my site (Buddyboss interface) .

How can I set it up?

  4. When I try and upload a photo I get an error “There were no photo found.” However when I click on my Wall, I see the photos posted. What is causing this error?

    Thanks

    1. I’m not sure. Can you try enabling the Groups component to see if that fixes it? A random bug someone else noticed. If not, please continue this discussion in the support forums.

  5. when “Allow users to upload photos” is selected.
    I Click “Save configuration”.
And i get this in the top of the page
Warning: error_log() has been disabled for security reasons in /usr/home/kangurapp.com/web/bb/wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 1200

  6. Can you email me a quote to create custom code to do just that for individuals profile pages to be used with Buddy boss child theme using the latest version of wordpress and latest buddy press and boss buddy. Thanks.

  7. Does the BuddyBoss Media Plugin auto-optimize uploaded Images? If no then which image optimization plugins have been tested or known to work with BuddyBoss Media? This makes sense for bandwidth and storage considerations.

  8. Thanks for the reply. I have no problems with using an image optimizing plugin. Two last questions: How about compatibility with the Buddypress Activity Privacy Plugin? Some people would’t like all their images to be accessible to everyone. When can we expect Album support on the plugin?

    1. Our plugin should be compatible with BP Activity Privacy. We’ve tested against it and even added some custom code to integrate fully with it.

Album support is still a ways off, but is definitely our #1 most requested feature. We need to fix up some bugs first and then we’ll work on it.

  9. Hey Michael,

I have an issue where users can upload images to their wall but when trying to post an image to a group it doesn’t show up.

Also, when a new forum topic is created the initial comment (by the creator of the topic) is not shown … only the replies to their initial comment are shown.

Do you have a suggestion for a fix for these issues?

    Cheers

    Carl

  10. TJ / Michael,

Is there anyway to allow members to upload photos to a forum post? I can post photos on the homepage of the group, but not in the forum section as there is no “Add Photos” button.

What’s the best option to make this possible?

  11. Is there a way to insert the photo upload box onto a custom page?

I’m wanting members of my site to go through a small onboarding, including having them upload a photo (but I don’t want it to be their profile or the activity page).

      1. Hi TJ – is it possible to link to the upload box (where it pops up in a light box) or anything like that?

I basically want to have an onboarding for new members, with one of the pages helping them upload their first photo. So if I can link to it and make it simpler for them to upload, that would be great!

  12. Hi
does this add-on give the possibility to add some photos to our profile (albums) without publishing them simultaneously on the activity wall?
I would be really interested if so!

    1. Pierre,
Unfortunately, no. When you post photos they go directly to your activity feed. You can make the privacy so only you can see them though. Check out the BP Activity Privacy Plugin.

      1. Ok TJ, Thanks for this alternative.
But when you publish some photos from a private group, will those photos appear in my profile so anyone can see them?

        1. Pierre,
Private groups photos remain private. They are NOT viewable to the public, we do not even provide this option to make them public because private groups are private for that reason. No one can break the privacy. But you can post the same photo a second time that is viewable to the public. I hope that answers your question.

  13. Hello Buddyboss team,

I am using Buddboss media plugin with boss theme in my website. Can I edit buddyboss media templates into my theme. If I can please tell me the folder structure into my theme.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Usman
