Introduction
Apple’s App Store Guideline 2.3.2 – Performance > Accurate Metadata requires each promoted in-app purchase product to have unique and representative metadata. If your app was rejected with a notice like:
Images and descriptions for your promoted in-app purchase products are the same, and your promotional image matches your app icon
This guide explains how to update your IAP metadata so Apple can approve your app without a new build.

How to Resolve It
To address this issue, revise your promoted IAP metadata as follows:
- Distinct Product Images: Create a unique image for each IAP that visually highlights its specific feature or content.
- Unique Descriptions: Write individual descriptions that clearly explain what users receive with each purchase.
- Custom Promotional Image: Replace the generic icon-based image with a bespoke banner or screenshot that accurately represents the promoted IAP.
- Differentiate All Metadata Fields: Ensure titles, descriptions, and images for each IAP product are clearly distinguishable.
Respond in App Store Connect
In the Resolution Center, reply with a note such as:
“We’ve updated our promoted in-app purchase metadata: each product now has a unique image and description, and the promotional image accurately represents the specific offer.”
Do I Need to Generate a New Build?
No. Updating IAP metadata is a metadata change only—no new binary upload is required.
