How to Resolve App Store Guideline 1.3 – Safety > Kids Category

Introduction

Apple’s App Store Guideline 1.3 – Safety > Kids Category requires that only apps specifically designed for children aged 11 and under use the Kids category. If your app was rejected with a notice like:

You have selected the Kids category for your app, but your app does not appear to be designed specifically for kids aged 11 and under.

This guide explains how to remove the Kids designation so Apple can approve your submission without a new build.

How to Resolve It

  1. In App Store Connect, select your app and go to App Information > Age Rating.
  2. Expand the Advanced section.
  3. Uncheck Made for Kids (the Kids category designation).
  4. Save your changes.

Respond in App Store Connect

In the Resolution Center, reply with a note such as:

“We have removed the Kids category designation by unchecking ‘Made for Kids’ under Age Rating > Advanced.”

Do I Need to Generate a New Build?

No. This is a metadata change only—no new binary upload is required.

Troubleshooting and FAQs

Q: I don’t see the “Made for Kids” option. Where is it?
A: In App Store Connect, it’s under App Information > Age Rating, then click Advanced to reveal the toggle.

Q: My app is educational for children—can I keep the Kids category?
A: Only if the entire app experience (content, UI, and settings) is exclusively designed for ages 11 and under. Otherwise, remove the designation.
