How to Create Profile Fields for Specific Profile Types in BuddyBoss

Introduction

Customizing profile fields for specific profile types in BuddyBoss allows you to tailor user profiles based on roles such as Coaches and Students.  This ensures that users only see relevant fields during registration and profile editing, creating a personalized and efficient onboarding experience. In this guide, you’ll learn how to create profile fields for specific profile types.

Configuring Profile Fields for Specific Profile Types

Access Profile Settings

  1. Navigate to BuddyBoss > Profiles.
  2. Click New Field Set to create a new group of profile fields.

Create Field Sets for Different Profile Types

  1. Enter a name for the field set based on the profile type, such as:
    • Coach Information
    • Student Information
  2. Click Save to create the field set.

Add Fields to a Profile Type

For Coaches

  1. Click on Coach Information.
  2. Click Add New Field.
  3. Enter Coach Experience as the field name.
  4. Set the field as:
    • Required
    • Publicly Visible
  5. Restrict the field to Coaches:
    • In the right panel, limit the field to Coach profile type.
    • This ensures only Coaches see the Coach Experience field.
    • During registration, this field appears only when a user selects Coach as their profile type.
  6. Click Save.

For Students

  1. Click on Student Information.
  2. Click Add New Field.
  3. Enter School History as the field name.
  4. Set the field as:
    • Required
    • Publicly Visible
  5. Restrict the field to Students:
    • In the right panel, limit the field to Student profile type.
    • This ensures only Students see the School History field.
    • During registration, this field appears only when a user selects Student as their profile type.
  6. Click Save.

Troubleshooting and FAQs

Q: Why aren’t the custom fields appearing during registration?
A: Ensure that the field sets are correctly assigned to the appropriate profile types in BuddyBoss > Profiles.

Q: Can users select multiple profile types and see combined fields?
A: No, users can select only one profile type at a time. Field visibility is restricted based on their selected profile type.
