How to Update to BuddyBoss Theme 2.0- Easy Way

This tutorial will guide you through updating from BuddyBoss Theme 1.0 to BuddyBoss Theme 2.0. This update is free for all existing customers and represents the biggest change since the theme’s launch in 2019, introducing new header styles, an expanded icon pack, Buddy Panel sections, and a modernized template pack. Follow the steps carefully to ensure a smooth upgrade. This article provide steps as to how you can update to BuddyBoss Theme 2.0.

Before You Update

Back Up Your Website

• We strongly recommend creating a backup before updating.
• Use a third-party backup plugin, or check if your web host provides its own backup solution.

Test on a Staging Site

• If possible, update first on a staging site. This ensures compatibility if you have custom code in a child theme or many third-party plugins.

Products Included in the Update

BuddyBoss 2.0 updates the following products:

• BuddyBoss Platform
• BuddyBoss Platform Pro
• BuddyBoss Theme

Note: You must update all three products at the same time. Many layout improvements rely on updates to both the plugins and the theme.

Updating to BuddyBoss 2.0

1. Go to your Dashboard > Updates.
2. Update BuddyBoss Platform to version 2.0.
3. Update BuddyBoss Platform Pro to version 2.0.
4. Update BuddyBoss Theme to version 2.0.

After updating, you’ll notice:

• A new theme screenshot for BuddyBoss Theme 2.0.
• An updated child theme screenshot (if you choose to replace it manually).

Updating the Child Theme Screenshot (Optional)

• Log in to your account at my.buddyboss.com.
• Download the updated child theme.
• Unzip the file and copy the screenshot.png into your child theme folder.

Note: We do not provide automatic updates for child themes to avoid overwriting your customizations.

Choosing a Theme Style

BuddyBoss Theme 2.0 includes two theme style options:

• Theme Style 1.0: Matches the look of BuddyBoss 1.0 for easier migration.
• Theme Style 2.0: Uses the modernized styling with updated headers, buttons, and navigation.

Button Border Radius

• For the 1.0 style, set the button radius to 100 (pill-shaped buttons).
• For the 2.0 style, set the button radius to 6 (slightly rounded buttons).

Switch styles anytime under BuddyBoss > Theme Options > Styles.

Updating Color Options

• Navigate to the Colors tab in BuddyBoss Theme 2.0.
• Color settings have been reorganized for clarity and now apply to more theme elements.
• Some options were renamed, removed, or added.
• Review your site to ensure your color scheme looks correct. Adjust as needed.

Exploring New Features

After updating, configure and explore the new features:

• Header Options: Choose from multiple header styles including the new tab bar and search bar.
• Buddy Panel Options: Add sections for better organization and consistency with the BuddyBoss App.
