    @mln83

    What is the minimum User Role required to view ‘My Groups’ and ‘Create a Group’?

    I have noticed that when I log in with WP user role ‘Subscriber’ the link ‘My Groups’ is missing (see enclosed image).
    When I log in with WP user role ‘Author’ the link ‘My Groups’ appear but ‘Create Group’ is missing.
    When I log in with WP user role ‘Administrator’ all the options appear.

    I would appreciate if you could elaborate on this so I can assign the proper user role for my students / teachers / developers.

    Thank you in advance.

    Best regards,
    Michael

    Further info.

    It might be a counting bug since ‘hidden’ groups are not counted in My Groups unless you are signed in as ‘administrator’. See enclosed images.

    Hi @mln83, You will have to enable User Groups option from Buddypress settings

    Hidden group will not be listed in the groups directory or search results. Group content and activity will only be visible to members of the group.

    Hi @pallavi,

    Thanks for the feedback. Here are my observations – referring to the previously attached images.

    Group directory:
    Case 1 (Admin_logged_in.jpg): Hidden groups are visible to User Role ‘administrator’ and also counted.
    Case 2 (Editor_WP_social_login.jpg) Hidden groups are visible to invited user but not counted.
    Case 3 (Editor_Normal_User.jpg) Hidden groups are not visible to invited user and not counted. The reason that it is not visible in this case is likely because it is the only group that this particular user is a member of and still not counted.

    I found the option ‘Group Creation – Enable group creation for all users’ but is it possible to Enable group creation for a specific User Role – ex. User Role – ‘Course Author’?

    Could I do this by installing ‘BuddyPress Member Types’ by BuddyBoss or would I need to install another plugin like ‘User Role Editor’ (https://wordpress.org/plugins/user-role-editor/) to do this?

    Best regards,
    Michael

    @vapvarun

    Hi @mln83
    Group related functionalities are BuddyPress Default
    We have not made any override for them, just group template is modified
    For Group Creation step will consider it our future update with instructor roles ( Course Author ) and let them create groups for their courses.

    Thanks Varun,

    That would be very helpful. As you may recall from a previous post I am using the Social Learner theme together with WISDM labs front-end course author (https://wisdmlabs.com/front-end-course-creation-for-learndash/) so it would definitely be useful if ‘Course Authors / Instructors’ could create a BuddyPress Group and tie it to a course that they are have created.

    Best regards,

    Hi @nvwa, Course Authors / Instructors can create a group..you can use ‘Front End Course Creation for LearnDash’ plugin as many of our customers using this plugin if you need any further help (while using the plugin) on this one so let us know we will help you out.
