Course description / course excerpt

Hi guys, I’d like to talk for a minute about the single-course page – this is a key selling point when people are considering taking a course.

Previously the top section (blue, with a featured image) included the course excerpt.

Under this was the “take this course” button and the full course description, followed by the lesson titles.

After the recent updates to Sensei I can have the course excerpt OR the course description in BOTH the blue section and the body of the page.

I don’t want the same content to appear in both places – I want the excerpt at the top and the description in the body of the page.

I’m not clear whether I should be asking this here, or directly to Sensei – but it seems to me like although it’s a setting you set in the Sensei settings page, it’s the theme that determines where those bits go.

So: can you help me? And if so, please do! 🙂

Actually I’ve noticed the single-course page shows different content depending on whether you’re logged in/out :/

Sure – attached. You will see in the “logged-in” image, the two text areas are different. In the “logged-out” image, the two text areas are the same.

Hi @familybudgeting, It has been fixed in our last updates..please update your theme / plugin properly and check your Sensei setting also.

Hi again, I’ve been trying to get this to work, but can’t. I have different text in the body of a course, and in the excerpt field. But I can get it to show *either* the text from the body or the excerpt in BOTH locations.

The excerpt should be at the top in the blue section and the body content should be in the white section above the lessons.

Could you help me get this sorted?

I hope your problem with same content in excerpt and content area is solved . I am not really getting your current problem . Could you please explain it a little more with a screenshot . Also please share you website url .

Sorry but it’s not solved. The website is http://www.MoMoney.co.nz.

As an example, this course: http://www.momoney.co.nz/course/prioritising-my-spending-needs-vs-wants/

You will see the blue area has the text “Learn the difference between what you want and what you need. Address your obligations first and you’ll be better placed to get the things you want without the debt.”

You will see it duplicated in the white space underneath.

In the backend for this course, there is both an excerpt and main description – different text. I wish the blue space to show the excerpt, and the white space to show the main description. But it only displays the excerpt in both places.

Sensei > Settings > Single Course page displays is set to “full course content”. Switching to “Excerpt” makes no difference.

Sensei is 1.9.6
Boss for Sensei is 1.0.9
Wordpress is 4.5.1

I’ve posted repeatedly here and created a ticket – is there no longer support for this theme, or …?

I am also a bit disappointed with recent developments. I am still getting some feedback from Varun Dubey (support) but the update & response progress seems to be slowing down which is a bit worrisome.

I hope that BuddyBoss will survive this transition phase but let’s be positive and see what happens 🙂

I’ve just encountered this issue. The course description appears correctly when logged-in, but the course excerpt displays twice when logged-out. See my attached screen shot. My theme and plugins are up-to-date.

Any thoughts?
