    SITE: http://aaronkine.staging.wpengine.com/

    I’m having problems with all three buttons in the Activity Feed (Comment, Reply, Cancel)

    I’ve switched from my Child Theme to the BuddyBoss 4.2.1 but problem persists. I also disabled plugins except for Buddypress.

    Comment Button: The comment button works but it takes a few seconds to load and do anything… then the page jumps so that the comment textarea box is at the top of the page. BUT because I made my header sticky (position:fixed) the comment box is hidden behind it.
    1.) I would like the page NOT to jump and the comment box to just open up where the button is clicked on the page.
    2.) The Cancel Button does not work… Once the Comment box is open when I click the Cancel button the page jumps all the way to the top but when you scroll down the button the comment box is still there. Cancel does nothing but jump the page to the top

    Reply Button: When clicked the screen jumps down the page a little bit but no textarea opens up to type into. I get no console error either?? Does not work at all.

    PLEASE HELP!!

    Hi @aaronkine
    we have identified that WPEngine supports BuddyPress in a very limited capacity and it even limits function like heartbeat in WordPress itself. I’ve been recommending all customers to leave WPEngine due to their limitations and these issues do NOT exist on regular website hosts.

    Well… I’m going to have to agree with WpEngine support, its a theme issue and not WpEngine issue. I can switch to a different theme (OneCommunity) and the buttons work great as expected. My LIVE site is also using the OneCommunity Theme and the buttons have been working great for years nprnsb.org. Feel free to setup an account and test it out on both sites. Live and Staging.

    Here is WpEngine Support Response:
    After a bit of investigation, I was not able to return anything from the error logs that provides any sort of information to why the functionality is not working for the two buttons.

    When you visit the URL of those buttons directly, they do not work as well:
    http://aaronkine.staging.wpengine.com/?ac=10550/#acomment-10552 (Reply button)
    http://aaronkine.staging.wpengine.com/?ac=10550/# (Cancel Button)

    In the latter, if you manually remove the /# at the end, the Comments box is gone. In this instance it is best to contact the developer.

    I have found the issue, sorta. after searching other threads with many others having the same issue with Buddyboss and WpEngine, someone mentioned turning off the BuddyPress setting “Automatically check for new items while viewing the activity stream”. I did and now the buttons work perfectly!! BUT we need this setting turned on. so now what do we do?

    I tried using the plugin “RS Buddypress Activity Refresh” which i remember working in the past on my live site?? but its not working anymore?? Any ideas why this plugin OR the built in BP feature are not refreshing the Activity Feed? I have also sent this question to WpEngine.

    NOTE: The Activity Refresh Works when using OneCommunity Theme… ALSO so does the RS Buddypress Activity Refresh plugin… So why does BuddyBoss Theme prevent either of these from working.?

    @vapvarun

    Hi @aaronkine BuddyBoss itself have infinite loop for activity, RS Buddypress Activity Refresh also do the same thus both will conflict.

    @aaronkine

    ok thanks for letting me know. After reading many threads on wpengine and buddyboss/buddypress I was able to force WpEngine to use less throttling on ajax and also ease up on the Heartbeat API. The Theme is now working better and buttons and functions are working smoothly.

    Thanks for your assistance and info. You can close this thread now.
