The BP Live Notification plugin was working prior to the 4.0.7 update, no longer functioning. Tested on a site reverted to 4.0.6 today, works fine with that. Is the simple feature any closer to being standard in Buddyboss? Surely it’s a little dated to rely on a page refresh for notifications. The notification counter no longer clears in the admin bar either.

I bought another prominent theme this week which while not as slick on mobile, has an abundance of theme and BP options missing from Buddyboss, live notifications and the ability to mark all notifications as read being just two (front end login and password reset are two more). I was reasonably happy I could get live notifications working in Buddyboss but that only lasted a day.

Can we please have some timeline of advancements to the theme? We know there’s a wishlist but no idea when our suggestions will arrive, while other themes now provide much of that functionality out of the box. I need to make a decision whether to use a different solution until Buddyboss can keep pace with it’s competitors. I’d rather not as the theme is so good on mobile/tablet, but beyond that I’m struggling to justify not using something else.

    Thanks,
    Paul.

I don’t believe the BuddyBoss update was the cause, seems impossible. This is the only change between 4.0.6 and 4.0.7 : “Fixed front-page blog posts having no pagination”. In other words, no JS was changed. I’m fairly certain this would be from something else, perhaps the Wall or Media plugins.

We’re not likely to add features into the theme that change how BP works. That’s best left for plugins.

We’re making new themes now that are going to be very cool. When they come out, you can decide if you like them or a competing theme. But the main BuddyBoss theme is going to remain mostly the same, short of bug fixes, etc. Adding all of those extra features bloat it. While some user may like it, just as many people will complain that it conflicts with some other plugin they are using, and there is no way to remove it since it’s tied into the theme. So we’re avoiding that route and keeping the theme a theme, features in integrated plugins.

@michael Fair enough, I’ll revisit with a local build and see if I can narrow it down to one plugin. I’ll be interested to see the new themes. It’s highly unlikely I would use a theme from a different vendor on the particular site I’m putting together. There’s zero chance I would use anything else on mobile, and Super Mobile on iPad is superb, puts a smile on the face. Given I know the bulk of my traffic will come from handheld devices, and I want the site to be consistent moving upwards onto desktop, I can’t see a situation where I’d switch for larger displays only. Thanks again.

@style960 Thanks. Yes if you can narrow it down to one plugin that would be very helpful. If its still an issue no matter the plugin setup, let me know as well. We are trying to fix it, but a lot of these bugs are specific to device/browser/server/plugins – which makes for a difficult test to replicate.

Glad you love the super mobile 🙂 The new themes will all have a mobile layout based on super mobile, but tailored to match their designs. Hopefully you’ll like them. We have a number in the pipeline that are already designed, the first of which is being coded right now.

@michael The live notifications issue isn’t BB related. Pretty sure it’s BP 2.1.1 that it’s incompatible with at the moment. Not a big issue since I’m not about to go live, I would expect it’ll be sorted in due time.
