Introduction
BuddyBoss Platform and Theme include built-in translations for English, German, Hungarian, Bengali, and French. When your WordPress Site Language is set to any of these, BuddyBoss text will automatically display in that language—no additional plugin required. For any other language, you can use Loco Translate to localize the theme and plugin strings.
Option 1: Change Your Site Language
- In WordPress admin, go to Settings > General.
- Scroll to Site Language and select your desired language from the dropdown.
- Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.
Note: Changing the Site Language affects your entire WordPress dashboard. If you choose one of the five supported BuddyBoss languages, the theme and platform text will switch automatically.
Option 2: Loco Translate Plugin
- Install and activate Loco Translate under Plugins > Add New.
- In the admin menu, go to Loco Translate > Plugins and search for BuddyBoss Platform or BuddyBoss Theme.
- Click New Language, choose your language.
- Set Location to System (so updates won’t overwrite your files).
- Click Start Translating, locate the strings you wish to modify, and enter your translations.
Troubleshooting and FAQs
Q: My dashboard didn’t switch languages—what should I check?
A: Ensure you clicked Save Changes after selecting Site Language, then clear any site cache and reload.
Q: BuddyBoss remains in English after choosing a supported language—why?
A: Confirm your WordPress version and BuddyBoss plugins are up to date; older versions may not include the latest translation files.
Q: Will my Loco Translate work after updates?
A: Yes—setting Location to System preserves translations. After any update, click Sync in Loco Translate to fetch new strings.
Q: Can I translate both theme and plugin strings with Loco?
A: Absolutely—repeat the process under both Loco Translate > Themes and Loco Translate > Plugins.
