BuddyPress 1.5 is out!

Sep 21, 2011 at 8:55 pm in BuddyBoss Theme, BuddyPress, News by Michael Eisenwasser (Admin) ·

About a year and a half in the making, BuddyPress 1.5 is finally out. It is the result of thousands of hours of work from hundreds of volunteers from all over the world. Here’s the complete list of features and fixes for BuddyPress 1.5.

If you are using the BuddyBoss theme, don’t update to 1.5 just yet. We are wrapping up BuddyBoss 2.0 right now, a major update to our flagship theme that will provide compatibility with BuddyPress 1.5. We will release the product within the next several days. If you are already a BuddyBoss customer, you will get this update for free as usual.

Here’s a sneak peak at what’s coming in BuddyBoss 2.0:

  • Full compatibility with BuddyPress 1.5
  • Complete code rewrite – faster, cleaner, better documented, more stable
  • Much improved “Facebook” Wall
  • Photo uploading to the Wall, with profile photo galleries
  • Widgets galore! Optional widgetized sidebars on all BuddyPress components, including profiles and groups
  • All BuddyPress components are registered as WordPress pages and can be reordered within the admin

  1. Side note: This website is running on BuddyPress 1.5 as of today. It’s noticeably more responsive.

  2. Michael-
What will the process be for upgrading the Buddyboss theme from the previous version to the 2.0 version you’re getting ready to release?

  3. We will release a detailed update guide, but basically it will involve uploading the new theme and adjusting some settings in the admin. If you have made edits to your theme, you will want to move those edits into a child theme first.

  4. Hey Michael- any update on this? We’re trying to decide whether to hold a website rollout waiting on the new theme.

    Thanks!

  5. Hi Michael,

How much time do you think you’ll need before moving to the latest version? I’m a bit unhappy with the (lack of) support given by the Woothemes team on the Canvas support of Buddypress. But the templates that come with the theme are very nice.

The problem is I’m in the middle of a build at the moment and need to make a choice of whether to invest more time in customising my existing template to my clients’ needs :)

    Cheers,
    -Mikey

  6. Getting close to a release?

  7. I’m on the same boat as Michael. I was scheduled to release a site to a client last week and have postponed due to the BP 1.5 release. Good luck and God speed on the new BuddyBoss release!

  8. Hey Michael- so, you’re thinking tomorrow? ;]

    /pray

  9. I expect to release the update tomorrow evening (Tuesday) or Wednesday.

  10. Hey Michael- are we still on track for tonight/tomorrow? Tonight? ; ]
