What is the Difference Between BuddyBoss Group Organizers vs Moderators

Introduction

BuddyBoss social groups support two elevated roles—Organizers and Moderators—each with distinct permissions. Understanding these roles helps you delegate group management effectively and maintain a healthy community environment.

Organizers

Full Control: Organizers can change every group setting including privacy (public/private), turn forums on or off, and update the group avatar and cover.

Member Management: They can add, remove, promote, or demote any member, including moderators.

Content Authority: Organizers can delete any discussion or activity post in the group.

Group Creation: The user who creates the group is automatically assigned as its organizer.

Moderators

Content Moderation: Moderators can edit or delete any forum discussion and activity items except those created by organizers.

Focused Permissions: They cannot alter group settings (privacy, forums, avatar) or manage members beyond removing offending posts.

Support Role: Ideal for helping organizers maintain community standards without full administrative access.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Q: How do I promote a member to moderator?
A: As an organizer, go to the group’s Manage > Members tab, locate the member, click the Role dropdown, and select Moderator.

Q: Do organizers have all the abilities of moderators?
A: Yes—organizers inherently possess all moderator permissions plus broader group-management capabilities.
