With the BuddyBoss Platform, members can search for and share GIFs in activity posts, private messages, groups, and forums using the GIPHY API. This feature makes interactions more engaging and fun while giving members new ways to communicate visually.
This article explains how to connect your site to the GIPHY API, enable GIF settings, and test that everything works.

Access Media Settings
- In your WordPress Dashboard, go to BuddyBoss > Settings.
- Click the Media tab.
Enter Your GIPHY API Key
- In the Media Settings, locate the Animated GIFs section.
- Enter your GIPHY API Key in the designated field.
- This key connects your site to the GIPHY service.
- Make sure the key is valid and active to avoid integration issues.

Activate Animated GIFs
- Under Animated GIFs settings, enable the checkboxes where you want GIFs available:
- Profiles → Allow members to use GIFs in profile activity posts.
- Groups → Allow members to use GIFs in groups, activity posts, messages, and forums.
- Messages → Allow members to use GIFs in private messages.
- Forums → Allow members to use GIFs in forum discussions and replies.
- Profiles → Allow members to use GIFs in profile activity posts.
Save Your Changes
- Scroll down and click Save Changes.
Test the Feature
- On the frontend, create a test post or message.
- Use the GIF search function to find and insert an animated GIF.
- Verify that the GIF displays correctly.
Troubleshooting and FAQs
Q: I don’t see the Animated GIFs section in Settings.
A: Make sure you are using the latest BuddyBoss Platform version and that you have administrator permissions. Check for pending updates if the option is missing.
Q: GIFs are not displaying in posts or messages.
A: Confirm that your GIPHY API key is entered correctly and active. Also, verify there are no network issues blocking access to GIPHY.
Q: The GIF search function returns no results.
A: Double-check that your API key is correct and unrestricted. Ensure firewall or server settings are not blocking the GIPHY connection.
