How to Disable Email Verification or User Activation

Introduction

By default, BuddyBoss (and BuddyPress) sends a confirmation email after signup and requires users to activate their account before they can log in. If you’d rather streamline registration—auto-activating new users and skipping the email step—you can use a small plugin to bypass this process.

Feature Availability

There’s no native setting in BuddyBoss or WordPress to turn off activation emails or automatic user activation. You’ll need a third-party plugin to handle it for you.

BP Disable Activation

This lightweight plugin removes the email activation requirement and automatically activates new users upon registration. Once installed and activated, users can sign up and log in immediately—no confirmation link needed.

Note: This plugin hasn’t been tested with the latest 3 major releases of WordPress. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress.

Troubleshooting and FAQs

Q: I installed the plugin but still see activation emails—what did I miss?
A: Ensure the plugin is active under Plugins > Installed Plugins, then clear any object or page cache and test in an incognito window.

Q: Can I still send a welcome email after activation?
A: Yes. This plugin only removes the activation step; it does not affect other notification emails sent via WordPress or BuddyBoss settings.

Q: Will this work on Multisite?
A: The plugin supports both single-site and multisite installations, but make sure you network-activate it if you want it to apply across all subsites.
