The Private Messaging feature in the BuddyBoss Platform allows members to communicate directly within your community. Messages support photos, documents, videos, emojis, and animated GIFs, making conversations more expressive and engaging.This article explains how to configure and use Private Messaging

Key Features of Private Messaging

With BuddyBoss messaging, members can:

  • Send direct messages for one-on-one conversations.
  • Share media including photos, videos, documents, and GIFs.
  • Express emotions using emojis and text formatting.

Access Messaging Settings

  1. In your WordPress Dashboard, go to BuddyBoss > Settings > Messages.
  2. Under Message Access, select which members can send private messages.
    • Options include WordPress Role, Profile Type, GamiPress, Membership, or Member.
  3. Click Save Settings.

Send a Direct Message

  1. On the frontend, click the Messages icon (envelope) in the BuddyBoss panel.
  2. Use the search bar to find the member or group you want to message.
  3. Type your message in the text box.
  4. Press Enter or click the Send button.

Attach Media to Messages

  1. In the message box, click the Media Upload icon.
  2. Select a photo, video, document, or GIF from your device.
  3. Confirm the upload and click Send.

Use Emojis and Formatting

  1. Click the Emoji icon in the message box.
  2. Browse or search for an emoji and click to insert it.
  3. To style text, click the Formatting icon and use:
    • Bold
    • Italic
    • Unordered List
    • Ordered List
    • Blockquote
    • Link
    • Preformatted Text

Q: Why aren’t users receiving messaging emails?
A: Check the following:

  • Email Settings: Ensure notifications are enabled under BuddyBoss > Settings > Emails.
  • User Preferences: Confirm users haven’t disabled notifications in their account settings.
  • Spam Filters: Ask users to check spam/junk folders and mark the sender as safe.

Q: Why are email notifications displaying incorrectly?
A: Verify that dynamic variables (e.g., [Sender’s Name], [Reply Link]) are configured correctly. Ensure the email template HTML is responsive.

Q: Emails are delayed or not sent. What should I check?
A: Clear your browser cache, test in another browser, and confirm you are running the latest BuddyBoss Platform version.
