How to Resolve Build Error Code P002 – Incorrect App Specific Password

Introduction

Build Error Code P002—“Incorrect App Specific Password”—occurs when the app-specific password used for App Store Connect authentication is invalid or has been revoked. Without a valid password, the build process cannot upload or sign your iOS app.

Your App Specific Password (used in place of your primary Apple ID password) is incorrect, expired, or has been revoked—so BuddyBoss cannot authenticate with App Store Connect.

Generate a New App-Specific Password

  1. Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
  2. Under Sign-In and Security, select App-Specific Passwords.
  3. Click the + button, enter a label (e.g., “BuddyBoss Build”), and click Create.
  4. Copy the newly generated password.

Update the Password in BuddyBoss App

  1. In WordPress, navigate to BuddyBoss App > Configure > iOS Settings.
  2. Locate the App Store Connect credential section.
  3. Paste your new app-specific password into the App Specific Password field.
  4. Click Save Changes.

Request a New Build

  1. Go to BuddyBoss App > Build.
  2. Review Information, confirm your credentials display correctly.
  3. Click Send Build Request to generate a new iOS build using the updated password.

Do I Need to Generate a New Build?

Yes. You must request a new build so that the updated App Specific Password is used for authentication.

Troubleshooting and FAQs

Q: I pasted the new password exactly but still see P002—what now?
A: Ensure there are no extra spaces or line breaks. Type the password manually if pasting fails.

Q: Why was my previous password revoked?
A: App-specific passwords are automatically revoked if you reset your primary Apple ID password or manually revoke them in your account.

Q: Can I reuse an old app-specific password?
A: No. Once revoked or expired, you must generate a fresh app-specific password.

Q: Will revoking all app-specific passwords affect other apps?
A: Yes. Any other service using those passwords must be updated with newly generated ones.

Q: Where can I find more details on app-specific passwords?
A: Refer to Apple’s guide: App Specific Passwords.
