How to Resolve Build Error Code E018 – Wrong App-Specific Password

Introduction

Build Error Code E018—“App Specific password customer has provided is wrong”—occurs when the app-specific password you entered for your Apple ID is invalid. This can happen if the password has expired or you recently changed your Apple ID’s primary password, which automatically revokes all app-specific passwords.

The build system uses an app-specific password to authenticate with App Store Connect. If that password is incorrect or revoked, the build cannot upload or sign your app.

Create a New App-Specific Password

  1. Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
  2. Under Sign-In and Security, click App-Specific Passwords.
  3. Click the + button to generate a new password.
  4. Enter a label (e.g., “BuddyBoss Build”) and click Create.
  5. Copy the generated password.

Update the Password in BuddyBoss App

  1. In WordPress, navigate to BuddyBoss App > Configure > iOS Settings.
  2. Paste the new app-specific password into the App Store Connect Password field.
  3. Click Save Changes.

Revoke Old Passwords

  1. On appleid.apple.com > App-Specific Passwords, click the icon next to any old passwords to remove them.
  2. Or click Revoke All to invalidate all app-specific passwords at once (you’ll then need to recreate passwords for any other apps using them).

Troubleshooting and FAQs

Q: My new app-specific password still fails—what next?
A: Confirm you pasted it exactly (no extra spaces). If you recently changed your Apple ID password, wait a few minutes for revocations to propagate, then generate another app-specific password.

Q: Where do I enter the app-specific password?
A: In BuddyBoss App > Configure > iOS Settings, under the App Store Connect credentials section.

Q: Can I reuse an old app-specific password?
A: No. Once revoked—by changing your primary Apple ID password or manually—it cannot be reused. Always generate a fresh one.

Q: Will revoking all passwords affect other apps?
A: Yes. Any app using an app-specific password will need a new one. Be prepared to update passwords for other services you’ve connected.
